Frequently Asked Questions

can a home owner do their own plumbing?

This varies depending on where you live, generally routine maintanence can be performed by the home owner as well as replacement of things like a toilet or vanity. Any installation or repair should have a permit and an inspection. Installing or repairing improperly could lead to damage of property, contents, or even health problems. If you are not confident about what needs to be done or how to do it, the best thing to do is to call the professionals at RFG Plumbing.

My neighbour has a backwater valve, should I get one?

Backwater Valves prevent sewer discharge from backing up into your home through your main sewer drain. If your neighbour has a Backwater Valve, any sewer backup could travel to your home instead, causing flooding and damage to your property and contents.

why shouldn't I use a chemical drain cleaner?

Chemical cleaners will breakdown seals and other related componets of your drainage system that could cause leaks, costing extra money in repairs. The preferred way to unclog a drain is to call the pofessionals at RFG Plumbing. They’ll use physical meathods like an eel, jetter, or compressed air snake.

what are my payment options?

We accept all forms of payment including credit, debit, e-transfer, and cash. Ask us about financing options.

are permits required for plumbing jobs?

Most plumbing jobs require a permit. Reqirements differ from municipalities so it’s important to contact your local building department.

is my garbage disposal causing clogs?

Garbage disposals work by grinding up food before they enter your drain. This could cause blocked pipes by overloading your drainage system. Food items can become trapped in the machine causing odors. We do not recommend the use of garbage disposals or “garburators.” A good option is the use of an outdoor compost, which is better for the environment, and will save on your electric bill.

wipes, makeup wipes and FEMININE products shouldn't be flushed?

None of these items break down in water. These products will clog your pipes collecting grease and waist items, eventually requiring a plumber to come unclog the system. Wipes and related products should always be disposed of in your garbage.
